Growing up in the 1960's I resided in a community that was eager to add fluoride to the water system, I didn't have any choice. Now, especially after years of avoiding plastic, I am so relieved to have an option to drink fluoride free water. My doctor told me to avoid it, and Berkey makes it possible. My daughter in Los Angeles introduced me to Berkey. Now I am getting one for my son and daughter-in-law, who live in Boston.
I was white knuckling it a little when it came to assembling the unit, but I had it up and working within 45 minutes. If I could suggest one addition to the instructions, a cut-away drawing of what the unit looks like once everything is assembled correctly.

It was extremely difficult to prime the filters without prior and even had to order new filters. The told container often leaks if the water doesn’t drain fast enough. It takes time to learn how much to fill so it doesn’t overflow!

I didn't want any of these harmful contaminants in my water so I decided to buy these additional filters. You do have to replace these filters more often than the others, but it is really worth it. I also think it made my Berkey water taste even better!

After we installed the four replacement PF-2s, we had to run about 12 gallons through the Berkey before there was no more residual white powder collecting in the lower chamber. This was after we had purged the filters per the instructions. It took a while but we're used to the requirement now. Afterward the water tasted great.
