If you have ever experienced a slow leak in a pipe/toilet/drain and come home from a long day to find standing/running water, you know that it’s a PITA! I tested these things with a drop of water on top, and by placing them on a plate that had a little water, and the sensors go off.

Tested it out with water at the sensors to make sure the alarm worked at each of the locations and they did -- hopefully I won't have to be alerted of a leak but the peace of mind that I can do something about the leak quickly instead of finding out about it much later when the damage is done is priceless.

The unit does not require external power (they work on 2 aa batteries which are supposed to last 5 years). Each unit is small (about the size of a wireless mouse) and is easy to place.

Had one of these under the fridge as the fridge was making bad noises when the ice maker drew water. Three months later, 6:00am alert and I find a cracked water line and fouled pump. Sensor went off again 2 days later at midnight when the coupler repair on the line failed. Saved me twice!

Works well. I replaced Honeywell Lyric with these detectors because the lyric quit working and would no longer connect to my network Honeywell's customer service was terrible couldn't figure out the problem. Ultimately they quit trying.

I have a very old house that needs special care in the plumbing department or our drains will back up. I bought these Govee leakage detectors back in December 2020 and planted them in the most likely places to have issues. I didn't hear a peep from them until June 2021 when one of those devices started sending alerts. The drain it was guarding had started to overflow. I was very pleased that I was alerted to the issue before water spread and things got damaged.
