- Can handle flow rates as much as 20 gallons/minute
- Backwash price of 7 GPM

- 1 cu ft or 1.5 cu ft media
*Note: (a) This product isn't available to CA residents due to California regulations on the Birm, please get in touch with Quality Water Treatment Inc for a various method.
(b) An inexpensive water test of your raw well water is highly suggested prior to buying these systems.
How it Functions:
As water flows through the filter tank containing Birm media, with enough oxygen within the water, the media causes the iron to form rust or strong iron particles. After these rust particles get trapped within the filter media, once or twice per week they're automatically backwashed out to drain, and also the filter media is prepared to filter once more.
Pros:
- No chemicals to buy for upkeep (under correct circumstances) and no regeneration needed.
- Very high iron removal efficiency.
- Occasional backwashing needed.
- Tough material having a long life and wide temperature variety.
Circumstances:
- Water must have a pH of 7.0 to 9.0. for birm to function correctly.
- The dissolved oxygen content should be a minimum of 15% from the iron or manganese content.
- Water must include no tannins, chlorine, oil, or hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg odor). For water with any of those items we suggest the GreenSand filter systems.
For many wells deeper than 50 ft, an air injector must be used for additional oxygen within the water prior to the Birm filter. When the water being filtered is water from an open storage tank or spring, no additional air injection is usually required.

Operation CONDITIONS for Birm Filters
🔎 Check To Insure Proper Function
A water test of your raw well water is highly suggested prior to buying filter systems.
Water Conditions Required:
- Water must have a pH of 7.0 to 9.0. for birm to function correctly.
- The dissolved oxygen content should be a minimum of 15% from the iron or manganese content.
- Water must include no tannins, chlorine, oil, or hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg odor).
If any of these items are present, we suggest the Greensand filter system. - Aeration is recommended for optimal performance.
For Wells 50 Feet or Deeper:
An air injector must be used to add oxygen to deep well water prior to feeding a Birm filter.
If water is fed from an open storage tank or spring, then additional air injection is typically not required.
Measure Your WELL PUMP FLOW RATE
Check your well pump's effective flow rate... Easy as 1, 2, 3...
Minimum Water Flow Rate Required:
The size of an iron filter or pH neutralizer system is dependent on the flow rate from your well pump.
Please check your flow rate to select the properly sized system.
Do not select a system that requires a higher flow rate.
>>>> Get your Flow Rate:
- Shut-off all faucets and make sure there is no running water.
- Place a 5 gallon bucket by a hose bib (spigot) near your well pump.
- Fully open the water hose bib until the well pump starts.
- Then, start filling up your 5 gallon bucket, and time how many seconds it takes to fill it up.
- Use the chart the following chart to get your flow rate.

Iron Content in your Water
What is this iron in my water?
EXCESSIVE IRON CONTENT
More About Iron Issues
Excessive iron issues in your water is typically characterized by the ugly red or brown colored staining in your plumbing fixtures, sinks, toilets and laundry.
With well water, iron typically occurs in a ferrous state. That means, the flowing water typically looks clear.
However, once the water is exposed to the air, the iron transforms into a ferric/ oxidized state. The clear water will turn red or brown and insoluble “rust” type material will form.
Iron staining can be easily caused by as low as only 0.3 milligrams per liter (mg/L).
Depending on the iron content concentration, we have several solutions to this ugly and aggravating water problem.
A quality iron filter will filter out this excessive iron content.
Types of Iron Filters...
Iron filter technology have been around for decades. They all do the job to remove iron, but with new technology and design, iron filters have greatly improved performance. Good news for difficult water quality!
Currently, the high-efficiency AIO Technology stands out. See how they compare below.

MAINTENANCE, REPLACEMENT & WARRANTY
Easy Operation
No other regular maintenance is required.
Water pressure should not exceed 80 PSI.
Birm media typically lasts approximately 5-10 years depending on water quality.
In some conditions, the media may only 3 to 5 years or less.
High iron, manganese or sulfur content; or high usage from irrigating with treated water, can cause the Greensand media to be replaced sooner.
Mineral tank generally last a lifetime unless damaged by weather, acts of god, installed improperly, etc.
Birm filters, similar to all iron filters can require maintenance depending on water quality.
ie. Brine injector may need to be cleaned a few times per year. They may get clogged with sediment, iron or manganese that can be present in your water.
The piston, spacers and seals can be worn or get stuck when iron, sediment or manganese is present in the water. These may need to be removed, cleaned or replaced. Replacing is generally more effective since parts are typically inexpensive.
Filter Replacement:
Bottom three (Sediment and Carbon Filters) - 6 to 12 months
Alkalizing Filter - 1 to 2 years depending on use
RO membrane - 2 to 3 years depending on use
Water quality will affect longevity.
Company warrants to the original consumer purchaser that the water conditioning systems specified below, and the parts listed in this section below, will be free from DEFECTS IN MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP from the date of purchase for the following periods* subject to the manufacturer's warranty.:

PROPER FILTER SIZING
What Filter Size?
In general, match your effective well pump flow rate to the backwash requirements to select the appropriate filter size.
Typical size is the 1.5 CUFT size, if your well pump can accommodate. An option is that you can also select a smaller size, if higher flow rates are not required.
