Incorporation Upper Uwchlan Township was incorporated as a municipality in 1858. For over 125 years, it had been the upper part of Greater Uwchlan Township. All of Upper Uwchlan's most punctual history is found within the historical backdrop of Uwchlan Township. Just its unwieldy size of 22.52 square miles was given as a purpose behind dividing the township into two substances. Area Upper Uwchlan lies on a plain between the North Valley Hills toward the south and the Nantmeal Hills toward the north. The regular geography of Upper Uwchlan is part of the Piedmont locale of Pennsylvania, falling only south of the Welsh Mountain anticline, which finishes at Black Horse Hill. Seepage More than 66% of the township is depleted by Marsh Creek and its tributary, Black Horse Run, which flow into the Brandywine Creek at Dorlan's Mill. The other 33%, on the eastern side of Route 100, is depleted by the headwaters of Pickering Creek, which flow into the Schuylkilll River below Phoenixville. Traffic Upper Uwchlan Township's fundamental traffic supply routes are Route 100 north/south and the Little Conestoga Road bearing northwest at the Eagle Hotel (Eagle Tavern). Called the most seasoned street in Pennsylvania between the Delaware and the Susquehanna Rivers, Little Conestoga Road was known as the Allegheny Path on early maps of the district. Highway 100 didn't separate the northern part of the township until 1839, when it was rerouted from Pughtown in a sweeping western curve to cross the primary Conestoga Turnpike (Route 401) at present Ludwig's Corner. This was an absolutely political move to bring more business traffic into the town of Eagle. For Additional Information You can peruse increasingly about our history in "A Place Betwixt and Between," a past filled with Upper Uwchlan Township written by Estelle Cremers and Pam Shenk and distributed in 1999. The soft-spread book is accessible for buy at the township office for $15.
