Many years before any of the urban areas in the eastern piece of our nation were to such an extent as clearings in the wild, an entrenched, acculturated network involved the land we know as Phoenix. The Pueblo Grande ruins, which were involved between 700 A.D. and 1400 A.D., vouch for our city's old roots. Phoenix officially was perceived on May 4, 1868, when the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors, the county of which we were then a section, framed a political race area here. A mail station was built up in Phoenix on June 15, 1868, with Jack Swilling as postmaster.
