City of Roma Drinking Water Report Info
In November 1993, the 9 square zones around Roma Plaza was assigned a National Historic Landmark District, the most elevated assignment for noteworthy properties in the U.S. Following its underlying foundations to the Spanish Colonial Colonists in the 1760s, Roma contains physical tokens of more than two centuries of Texas/México borderlands legacy. Roma's initial history is established in the Spanish pioneer time frame. In 1746, José de Escandón got authorization from the Spanish Crown to colonize Nuevo Santander, which reached out from the Sierra Madre Oriental to the Gulf of México and from the rainforest of Tamaulipas northward past the Rio Grande. By 1753, Escandón had established the towns of Camargo, Reynosa, Revilla and Mier south of the Rio Grande and Dolores on the north bank. Pursued by Laredo in 1755. The Roma National Historic Landmark District contains more than 30 structures that worked before 1900. Each is a landmark to the fearless, spearheading soul of Spanish Colonial and Mexican pilgrims and the times of ensuing thriving as a significant business community for this region of the Texas/México borderlands..
