About Our History To protect the place where we grew up climate, to serve the network through capable government and give a sheltered domain, which advances, upgrades and builds up a higher calibre of life for our residents. Garrett Burgess Griffin Royse, City Founder Garrett Burgess Griffin Royse Garrett Burgess Griffin Royse, otherwise called Byrd Royse, was conceived in Adair County, Kentucky on January 31, 1838, to William and Mary Stone Royse. He was the seventh of 14 kids. Mr. Royse was proud of the way that he served the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He presented with the nineteenth Regiment Missouri Infantry. Around 1850, Mr. Royse's future grandma in-law and her children purchased a few tracts of land that were later to be known as Royse City. He wedded Mrs. McCasland's granddaughter on August 8, 1880. They stayed wedded until Mr. Royse's passing in 1928. Mrs. Nancy Royse kicked the bucket 7 years after the fact. Around 1886, Mr. Royse platted the townsite and offered the principal part to Alf Reese and his nephew Albert Royse. About that equivalent time, Mr. Royse was instrumental in getting the MK&T Railroad line brought from Greenville to Dallas through Rockwall County. Family legend has it that Mr. Royse educated the MK&T Railroad individuals that he would give the land for a train station if they would call it Royse City. After the parcels were sold and land in and around Royse City were selling entirely high, the Royse family sold their part and, in 1893, joined around 100,000 others in the Oklahoma Land Rush. Mr. Royse got a very bit of land in Custer County close Foss, Oklahoma. Mr. Royse and his significant other lived there until their demise. They are both covered in the Stafford Cemetery close Foss. Downtown Royse City 1920's The photograph to one side was taken in the mid-1920s in downtown Royse City. At the time, the methods of transportation were strolling and horseback. As the cotton and sorghum ventures developed, autos, trucks and different methods of present-day transportation were acquainted with Royse City. The greater part of the block structures that you see here is still being used today. The structure that right now houses the Zaner Robinson Historical Museum is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was affirmed for this assignment in 1994.
