The City of Santa Claus Barbara is in the seventh year of the persistent drought. Luckily, with careful drinking water planning and wise direction from Town Council, the City includes a diverse water profile that will meet drinking water customers’ demands through 2020. Our water supplies include surface area water from Pond Cachuma and Gibraltar Reservoir; state drinking water that is conveyed through Lake Cachuma; groundwater; and Charles Electronic. Meyer Desalination Grow, which began releasing drinking water in May 2017. While Santa Barbara received some rainfall over the past winter and spring, it just amounted to 50 percent of normal total annual rainfall, and Pond Cachuma remains in 40% of the capacity. Additionally, Gibraltar Reservoir has been influenced by ash and particles from the Thomas Open fire, and after several years of prolonged groundwater moving, there are limited groundwater reserves. With the current drought, our drinking water customers have done a great job of reducing their water make use of, at times exceeding the conservation goal of 30%, which has helped to preserve our obtainable water supplies. The latest annual city-wide drinking water demands have regularly been below 12, 000 acre-feet each year. This matches the City’s water usage in 1958 when the populace was only 50 % of what it is today. The City’s desalination herb is permitted to create up to 10, 500 Photo: Santa Barbara County Public Functions acre-feet per year (AFY), but is currently created to a capacity of three, 125 AFY, which can be approximately 30% from the community’s current total annual water demands. If water supply conditions get worse, the City is positioned to consider expanding the rose to ensure there are sufficient water supplies to keep to meet the community’s water demands. Drinking water customers are becoming asked to continue their particular water conservation attempts. The City's Drinking water Conservation Program gives free Water Examinations for efficiency suggestions as well as rebates, backyard classes, instructional video clips, and more.
