The Russian River Watershed acts approximately 600, 500 people in Sonoma, Mendocino and Marin Counties. It is also house to approximately 35 species of fish, 3 of which are outlined as threatened or perhaps endangered-Chinook salmon, coho salmon, and steelhead trout. Three reservoirs supply water towards the Russian River Watershed: Lake Mendocino around the East Fork from the Russian River, Pond Sonoma on Dry out Creek, and Pond Pillsbury on the Eel River which moves into Lake Mendocino through PG&E’s Knitter Valley Hydroelectric Task. These reservoirs and regional groundwater water wells provide water intended for drinking, fire safety, agriculture, industry, and also habitat for fish around and wildlife. The Russian River, which usually defines the watershed, originates in Mendocino Region, approximately 15 kilometers north of Ukiah and reaches the Pacific Ocean at Jenner, just 20 kilometers west of Santa claus Rosa. Water commonly enters the watershed as rain and it is either conveyed to streams, rivers, and reservoirs or seeps into the ground to recharge groundwater. To gather water from the Russian River for most from the southern part of the watershed, the Sonoma Region Water Agency (SCWA) utilizes six enthusiast wells that lengthen approximately 80 ft below the natural oceanbed of the Russian Water. As the water is usually collected, it is normally filtered through levels of sand, small and rock. Drinking water collected from the Russian River through profound collector wells needs no additional treatment except chlorine which can be added for disinfection, and sodium hydroxide which is added to change the pH from the water to reduce corrosion of lead and copper plumbing fittings. Water from the Russian River and the local groundwater water wells are supplied for you through a complex drinking water distribution system, the biggest of which is the SCWA aqueduct system. Water is required by condition law to be examined frequently to ensure that this meets or exceeds drinking water requirements at your tap.
