Chemicals That Could Be in Drinking water The sources of water (both tap water and bottled water) consist of rivers, lakes, channels, ponds, reservoirs, suspension springs, and wells. While water travels within the surface of the property or through the floor, it dissolves natural minerals and, in some instances, radioactive material, and may pick up substances caused by the presence of animals or perhaps from human activity. To make sure that tap water is safe to imbibe, the U. H. Environmental Protection Agency (U. H. EPA) and the Condition Water Resources Control Board (State Board) prescribe regulations that limit the number of particular contaminants in drinking water provided by public drinking water systems. The United. S. Food and Drug Administration rules and California legislation also establish limitations for contaminants in bottled water that provide similar protection for public well-being. Drinking water, including water in bottles, may reasonably be anticipated to contain in the least small amounts of some contaminants. The existence of contaminants does not always indicate that drinking water poses a wellness risk. Contaminants which may be present in source drinking water include: Microbial Pollutants, such as viruses and bacteria, which may originate from sewage treatment vegetation, septic systems, farming livestock operations, and wildlife; Inorganic Pollutants, such as salts and metals, which can be natural or can derive from urban stormwater runoff, industrial or household wastewater discharges, gas and oil production, mining, or perhaps farming; Pesticides and Weed killers, which may come from a number of sources such as farming, urban stormwater runoff, and residential uses; Organic Chemical Pollutants, including synthetic and volatile organic chemical substances, which are by-products of business processes and petroleum production, and which could also come from gasoline stations, urban stormwater runoff, agricultural applications, and septic systems; Radioactive Contaminants, which can be natural or can be the consequence of oil and gas production and mining activities. More info about contaminants and potential health results can be obtained by getting in touch with the U. H. EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Servicenummer at (800) 426-4791..
