Crofton-Odenton Drinking Water Report Info
Odenton is an evaluation assigned spot (CDP) in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. The populace was 20,534 at the 2000 statistics. The town is named after previous Governor of Maryland, Oden Bowie. It is circumscribed by Gambrills toward the east, Severn toward the north, Fort Meade toward the west, and Crofton toward the south. It is situated at the crossing point of Maryland highways 170 and 175 and is parallel to Route 32. The zipcode is 21113. It is often misspoke "Odington" or "oDENton." In 1840, the steam-controlled Annapolis and Elk Ridge Railroad (A&ER) was worked over a scantily settled cultivating network that would later move toward becoming Odenton. Toward the start of the Civil War, Union fighters watched this railroad line since it was the main connection between the North and the country's capital. Rail traffic through Baltimore had been upset by southern sympathizers, so supplies, mail and warriors moved through Annapolis and west Anne Arundel County to Washington. The town of Odenton, nicknamed "The Town a Railroad Built" by Catherine L. O'Malley, was shaped in 1868 with the development of the Baltimore Potomac (B&P) Railroad associating Baltimore and Washington, D. C. Where the B&P crossed the A&ER, a train station and transmit office were developed and named for Oden Bowie, President of the B&P and previous legislative head of Maryland. Train administration to the station started on July 2, 1872. The rail intersection (the present MARC station) at Odenton Road, effectively a bustling lane from Annapolis to Frederick, turned into the site of Odenton's first business focus. The Watts and Murray general stores served railroad laborers and ranchers, and in 1871 a mail station was built up. A town became close to the intersection, houses were worked for railroad laborers, a Methodist church was committed in 1891 and a level school opened in 1892..
