The City of Millville was conceived at what is today Union Lake. Joseph Smith and others shaped the Union Estates Company in 1776, acquiring 24,000 sections of land of land and setting up a plant at the leader of the Maurice River. To control the factory, the Union Estates Company extended a dam along the northern piece of the Maurice River and set up the primary important advancement along the waterway. A second dam was worked during the 1860s where it is today, having supplanted the first that had been more distant upstream. The first to perceive the land with its number of forests and its situation on the stream was Captain Joseph Buck, a veteran of the Revolutionary War who had served under George Washington. It was in 1795 that he drew up his arrangements for the town. Parts went available to be purchased right away before the town was composed as a township in 1801. When he kicked the bucket in 1803 there were less than 20 houses. Millville got its name during the 1790s from the various plants and manufacturing plants that were made arrangements for the site. Since South Jersey has a wealth of silica sand (silica sand is a fine white grained sand, like that of waterfront beaches), it was ideal for the beginnings of the glass business that we are pleased with today. The City of Millville was joined as a city by a demonstration of the state lawmaking body in 1866 and worked under the chairman chamber type of government until 1913. Association Lake, more than 4,000 sections of land of upland, Maurice River, and two Wildlife Management Areas encapsulate a portion of the normal charming destinations.
