The Old Link MUA obtains drinking water from a combination of its very own groundwater sources, and also from surface drinking water sources of the Middlesex Water Company. Middlesex Water Company obtains the top water from the Delaware and Raritan Canal and also from the Jazz Run and Rounded Valley Reservoirs. The topwater source is usually withdrawn from the channel at an intake and pumping station found in New Brunswick and transported to the Middlesex Plant in Edison for treatment. The completed water is then transferred to Old Link via a network of distribution mains coming from Edison to Aged Bridge Township. The groundwater source is usually obtained from the Old Link MUA's eight (8) wells. The water wells extend underground 100 feet (100') to four hundred feet (400') into two (2) separate groundwater water supplies. The shallower aquifer, located at 100 feet (100') is known as the Old Bridge Aquifer, and the deeper aquifer, located at 400 feet (400') is known as the Farrington Aquifer. The water is driven out of the two (2) aquifers to a treatment plant for associated with contaminants utilizing advanced and reliable treatment practices for the source of water.
