Welcome to Village Water System Inc. We are a non-profit cooperative serving rural residential customers in the Princeton and Red Chute area in East Bossier Parish. Our mission is to provide safe, clean water to our area customers. Our offices are located on Hwy 80 in Haughton, Louisiana.Village Water System, Inc.,(VWS) is a non-profit member owned water utility corporation, it was formed in 1967 with the sole purpose of serving the citizens of the Haughton area with potable water. The water system is independent of the nearby cities and is governed by the by the Public Service Commission. Under the auspice of a seven member elected board and through a perpetual agreement with its members the system is obligated to serve all residences, businesses, and industries within the limits of the system. Currently we serve over 3500 active meters and a population estimated to be over 12,000 members. The system spans along the LA State Hwy 80/I-20 corridor, from the Bossier City Limit on the west to just inside the Webster Parish on the east side and extends up to six miles north and south with I-20 forming the majority of the southern boundary. VWS is served by 18 wells with a distribution system consisting of eight water plants, twelve storage tanks with a storage capacity of over two million gallons of water. Monthly production averages approximately twenty million gallons during cooler months and over thirty million gallons during the summer months. History Credit for the conception of Village Water System Inc., and the hard word and long hours to bring the system to fruition belongs to the Lions Club. The system began with one 75,000 gallon elevated storage tank, 190,000 gallons of ground storage and two wells. Village Water is a non-profit, member owned, Louisiana Corporation. Its governing body is an elected seven member Board of Directors. Each customer is a shareholder in the corporation and is entitled to one vote to be exercised, in person at annual meetings. The corporation was incorporated June 12, 1967. Village Water is a ground water system; it serves a rural area of approximately 84 square miles extending from Old Bellevue/Bodcau Roads @ U.S. HWY 80 in Bossier Parish to about one-half miles East of Goodwill Rd. Webster Parish. The southern boundary of the area runs generally four to six miles North of U.S. HWY 80. In 1968 with 403 customers and its first loan of $412,000 from then Farmers Home Administration, the Village Water System, Inc. was organized and started. This loan served to construct two wells and an elevated storage tank. The construction of the well (Well #1) and the elevated storage tank took place behind the telephone station on Chandler road, hence the name Telephone Hill plant. The #2 well was built at what was the Rains Plaza. Since then the system has received many other loans, some grants and has grown to over 3500 active services as of our last count. In 1974 because of the increasing customer load the system began to experience water shortages during peak usage. To remedy this situation another loan of $330,000 was facilitated through then Farmers home Administration. Two deep wells in the Sparta sand in Webster Parish were added. Another 125,200-ground storage tank was added to the Fillmore station. The two wells became as what is known today as the Bellevue Plant. Farmers Home Administration loans were also make for $235,000 and $125,000 in 1978 and 1981. These loans added to the transmission of water from the L.A.A.P. water plant to HWY 157 and the Hill Top storage tank. Two new wells an elevated storage tank (@ Adner RD.) and transmission lines were added in 1988. In 1997, two wells, a pumping station a ground storage tank were added to the system @ Tall Pines Rd. In 2005, a new site was added, it was named the Hwy 80 plant. This added two new wells and a booster station with a storage tank. In 2006 two new wells to the east side of the system were added. To accommodate the growth of our community , several other additions such as water storage tanks along with constructions and upgrades to various facilities have taken place. A new complete Water Plant Station, Wafer Road Station was competed in 2012 Today the numbers of our water wells is 18 and we service over 3,550 meters with an estimated population of 10,600. The depth of our wells vary from 75" to 490" depending upon the aquifer.Aquifers: Upland Terrace Deposits & Wilcox Terrace: 9 Shallow wells 75' to 115' Wilcox: 9 deeper wells from 308' to 461 Average Daily Usage: 950,000 GPD.
