The cities of Albany and Millersburg as well as the Dumbeck Lane Drinking water District receive their particular drinking water from the Santiam River system through one of two water treatment plants. The Albany-Millersburg treatment plant uses membrane technology to filter water from your Santiam River. Walls are made up of thin levels of material that individual out dirt, fine sand, and microorganisms from your water. This grow is designed to produce approximately 12 million gallons of treated drinking water per day. The Grapevine Street treatment herb uses mixed-media filtering technology to treat drinking water from the Santiam-Albany Channel supplied by the Southerly Santiam River. Mixed- media filters contain different sizes of fine sand, anthracite coal, and garnet to attract and trap dirt, fine sand, and microorganisms inside the filter. This grow is designed to produce approximately 16 million gallons of treated drinking water per day. After purification, the water is disinfected to inactivate any kind of remaining microorganisms, the pH is modified to reduce corrosion of piping and domestic plumbing components, and fluoride-based is added to assist in preventing dental cavities. Water is then ready to disperse to our customers. The water distribution system includes seven reservoirs, 6 pumping stations regarding 290 miles of pipeline that provide Albany, Millersburg as well as the Dumbeck Lane Drinking water District. A Resource Water Assessment Statement was completed by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality in 2002 for the Vine Street drinking water treatment plant. The report concluded that the origin water may be vulnerable to contamination from sediments (turbidity), microbiological resources and nutrients. 1 group of contaminants which can be sometimes found in surface area water is insect sprays or herbicides. These types of chemicals often elope from agricultural or perhaps residential property and flow into the water. Albany has occasionally discovered very low levels of regular pesticides in our natural water sampling, much below any amounts that would impact human beings' health. While the concentrations of these chemicals are extremely low, we would choose not to find them whatsoever and encourage any person using pesticides or perhaps herbicides to follow labeled directions, avoid bringing out along the banks from the canal or additional waterways, and shop chemicals away from surface area water. Because Albany’s water is highly cured, drinking water quality effects are not likely to happen from any of these potential contaminants. The Source Drinking water Assessment document exists upon request simply by calling 541-917-7600 or perhaps visiting www.cityofalbany.net/contact..
