DRINKING WATER POLLUTANTS The sources of water to drink (including bottled water) include rivers, waters, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and boreholes. As water journeys on the surface in the land or throughout the ground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals and radioactive materials (in some cases) and will pick up substances caused by the presence of humans and animals. Contaminants that will be present in source normal water include (a) Microbes contaminants, such as infections and bacteria, which can come from sewage treatment plants, septic devices, agricultural livestock businesses, and wildlife. (b) Inorganic contaminants, including salts and alloys, which can be naturally-occurring or perhaps result from urban stormwater runoff, industrial or perhaps domestic wastewater secretions, oil and gas (c) & nitrogen-laden herbicides, which may are derived from a variety of sources just like agriculture, urban stormwater runoff, and noncommercial uses. (d) Organic and natural chemical contaminants, which include synthetic and unstable organic chemicals, which can be by-products of industrial steps and petroleum development, and can also result from gas stations, urban stormwater runoff, and solid waste systems. (e) Radioactive contaminants, which can be natural or be the effect of oil and gas production and mining activities. To be able to ensure that tap water is secure to drink, the Environmental Security Agency (EPA) prescribes regulations which limit the number of certain impurities in water furnished by public water devices. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations create limits for pollution in bottled water, which in turn must provide the same protections for public welfare. Drinking water, including in a commercial sense bottled water, may realistically be expected to include small amounts of several contaminants. The presence of pollutants is normal and does not automatically indicate that drinking water poses an overall health risk to customers.
