LEAK DIAGNOSIS PROGRAM To promote resource efficiency efforts, the City of Miramar initiated the Citywide Water Outflow Detection Program. A contractor was appointed to perform an advanced traditional survey of the normal water system for leaking not visible for ground surface. Found in 2017, the review of over 85 miles of canal and thousands of services connections resulted in the discovery of two hundred and twenty leaks. City personnel repaired all the water leaks saving the City roughly 420, 000 gallons per day of moving water. METER REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT This job endeavors to maintain most meters and elements through timely substitutions to ensure continued reliability in readings and billing. The substitute meters have Computerized Meter Reading (AMR) technology, which allows better and timely scans than the old yards which had to be personally read each month. In 2017, 4, 1000 residential meters had been purchased to replace obsolete meters. Staff mounted all 4, 1000 - 5/8” yards, as well as approximately 2 hundred commercial meters. EAST WATER TREATMENT HERB (EWTP) RENOVATION The EWTP has been in services for over 50 years, plus the lime-softening technology that employs has as been improved by simply advanced treatment technology including nanofiltration filters. In July 2017, the City Commission accepted Resolution 17-173 to get the 26 million dollars Renovation Project to setup nanofiltration membrane treatment at the EWTP. Due to maturity and normal degeneration, the sewer water lines that were constructed inside the 1950’s need to be restored and/or replaced because they have reached the end with their useful life. Since an on-going hard work of maintaining sewer services while getting rid of groundwater infiltration/inflow (I/I) the City was able to restore approximately 13, 011 linear feet of gravity sewer water pipelines in the location located between Douglas Road and SW 67th Avenue. The pipelines had been rehabilitated using a recently developed trenchless technology to restore sewer providers without excavation, causing reduced roadway structure and disruption for the residents and businesses in the area. As well in 2017, crucial components to the City’s east-side wastewater collection system: Lift Place #15, located for 6900 SW thirty-sixth Street; Lift Place # 2, located at 2726 SW 66th Terrace; and Lift Station # 23, located for 3302 Commerce Pkwy, were rehabilitated. GOTTEN BACK WATER CUSTOMER CABLE CONNECTIONS From the expansion in the reclaimed distribution program in 2017, the location of Miramar surely could connect two business customers for a total of 138 acres, irrigated with reclaimed water. Within our conservation initiatives, the City of Miramar will continue to put into practice its reclaimed normal water program and expand water services to more communities and businesses. The benefits of hooking up more customers for the reclaimed water program helps to promote normal water conservation, encourage effective and efficient use of reclaimed normal water and assist in keeping utility rates straight down. The City of Miramar continues to collaborate with the State of California, the Florida Section of Environmental Security, Broward County Environmental Protection and Progress Management Department, plus the South Florida Normal water Management District to promote water reuse and conservation. HISTORIC MIRAMAR REDEVELOPMENT TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION FIRE HYDRANT & WATER MAIN ADVANCEMENTS In January 2017, construction began found in Historic Miramar (east of University Road) to replace over fifty-five, 000 feet of under-sized water Droit with upgraded and upsized pipes also to install new fireplace hydrants.
