The McKenzie River, which usually originates in the chilly, pure waters of Clear Lake full of the Cascade Mountain range, supplies Eugene occupants with their drinking water. Nearly 20 years ago, Eugene Water & Electric Board completed a resource water assessment, which usually identified development, city runoff and hazardous materials transport as main threats to drinking water quality. Subsequently, EWEB developed a comprehensive water source protection system to protect the world-renown McKenzie River and encourage good stewardship within the McKenzie Watershed. Customer surveys regularly place a high value upon drinking water quality and remain committed to safeguarding Eugene’s sole supply of drinking water. Staff lately presented a new 10-year strategic plan for resource water protection towards the EWEB Board of Commissioners. This plan concentrates on water quality and watershed health monitoring; emergency response to dangerous material spills; city runoff mitigation; riparian forest protection and restoration; and other courses that help safeguard this vital drinking water source. EWEB resource protection staff work closely with professionals at our Hayden Bridge Water Purification Plant to keep an eye on water quality coming from “source to tap” to understand long-lasting trends and efficiently treat and control the quality of your water. The 10-year resource protection strategic strategy emphasizes investments in the bottom of the McKenzie Watershed, near east Springfield, were threats coming from urban runoff, advancement and the potential for splatters tend to be the best.
