Source Water Evaluation Summary The Source Drinking water Assesment for the supply has been completed by Illinois EPA. If you want a copy of this info, please call the Water Division at 309/345-3649. To view a summary edition of the completed Resource Water Assessments, which includes: Importance of Source Drinking water; Susceptibility to Contaminants Determination; and documentation/recommendation of Source Drinking water Protection Efforts, you might access The state of Illinois EPA website in http://www.epa.state.il.us/cgi-bin/wp/swap-fact-sheets.pl. Susceptibility to Contamination: To determine the Associated with Galesburg’s susceptibility to groundwater contamination, the Illinois EPA examined an engineering statement for the City of Galesburg. Based on the above-mentioned document and drinking water quality monitoring info, this community drinking water supply’s source drinking water is susceptible to SOC and VOC contaminants. Also, as a result of monitoring conducted at the water wells and entry point towards the distribution system, the land use actions, and the source drinking water protection initiatives by city, the City of Galesburg’s source drinking water is not vulnerable to IOC contamination. Furthermore, in anticipation of the Circumstance. S. EPA’s suggested Ground Water Control, the Illinois ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY has determined the City of Galesburg’s water wells are not vulnerable to virus-like contamination. This dedication is based on the analysis of the following requirements during the Vulnerability Waiver Process: the community’s wells are correctly constructed with sound honesty and proper internet site conditions; a hydro-geologic barrier exists that prevents pathogen motion; all potential paths and sanitary problems have been mitigated in a way that the source water is usually adequately protected; monitoring data did not show a history of disease outbreak; and the hygienic survey of the hydrant did not indicate a viral contamination danger. However, having mentioned this, the “U. S. EPA is usually proposing to need States to identify devices in karst, tiny rocks, and fractured rock and roll aquifer systems while sensitive and these types of systems must carry out routine source drinking water monitoring. ” Since some of the community’s water wells are constructed within an unconfined sand and gravel aquifer, the Illinois EPA examined the good hydraulics associated with the City of Galesburg’s well field. The wells range between 74 and 2094 feet overburden. This would provide an adequate level of filtration to prevent the movement of pathogens into the wells. Resource Water Protection Attempts: The Illinois Environmental Protection Act gives minimum protection areas of 400 and 200 feet intended for the City of Galesburg’s wells. These minimal protection zones are regulated by The State of Illinois EPA. To further decrease the risk to the supply water, the service has implemented a wellhead protection system which includes a management and education committee, resource water protection administration strategies, and backup planning. This work resulted in the community hydrant receiving a special exclusion permit from The state of Illinois EPA, which allows a decrease in the SOC and VOC monitoring. The result of this monitoring decrease has saved the facility considerable lab analysis costs..
