HERNDON’S CAUSES OF DRINKING WATER The Town of Herndon purchases completed water from Fairfax Water. Fairfax Drinking water draws surface drinking water from two main sources: the Potomac River and the Occoquan Reservoir, which is given by the Occoquan Water. Treatment facilities can be found at opposite ceases of Fairfax Region and feed a great interconnected distribution program. The James M. Corbalis, Jr. Treatment Plant, located in the northern part of Fairfax County, draws drinking water from the Potomac Water. The Frederick G. Griffith Jr. Treatment Plant, which pulls water from the Occoquan Reservoir, is located around the southern border of Fairfax County. Although Fairfax Water is usually an interconnected circulation system, because of the north location of the Town of Herndon within Fairfax County, the Town of Herndon received drinking water-primarily from the Harry J. Corbalis treatment plant during 2017. SOURCE WATER EVALUATION Under the provisions from the federal Safe Drinking Water Take action, states are required to develop comprehensive source-water evaluation programs that satisfy the following requirements: • Identify the watersheds that supply public plain tap water. • Provide products on the hand of contaminants within the watershed. • Assess susceptibility to contamination in the watershed. Source-water assessments intended for the watersheds are conducted by the Va Department of Wellness (VDH). The evaluation consists of maps from the evaluated watershed region, an inventory of regarded land-use activities, and documentation of any kind of known source-water contaminants within the last five years. Based on the criteria produced by the state, the Potomac River and the Occoquan Reservoir were decided to be of high susceptibility to contamination. This kind of determination is like a state’s finding intended for other surface oceans, such as rivers, ponds, and streams, through Virginia. The evaluation report is available simply by contacting Fairfax Drinking water at 703-698-5600, or perhaps by visiting Fairfax Water’s website at www.fairfaxwater. org/water/swap. htm..
