The Bijou County Water Program pumps groundwater coming from three well areas located in the Fantastic Gate Estates. The North Hawthorn Good field has twenty-four wells that provide drinking water to the North Region Regional Water Treatment Plant. The Southerly Hawthorn Well discipline has 42 water wells that provide water towards the south County Regional Drinking water Treatment Plant. The Golden Gate Tamiami Wellfield offers 36 wells that offer water to the two treatment plants. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) performed a Resource Water Assessment around the system in 2016. This assessment was first conducted to provide details about any potential causes of contamination in the vicinity of the wells. Potential causes of contamination identified included underground petroleum storage space tanks, injection water wells, and industrial sewage treatment plants. The assessment results are on the DEP Resource Water Assessment and Protection Program site at www.dep. condition. fl. us/swapp. You will find two Regional Drinking water Treatment Plants, the North County Local Water Treatment Herb (NCRWTP) and the Southern County Regional Drinking water Treatment Plant (SCRWTP).
