Maryville was platted on September 1, 1845.[10] Maryville's name begins from the town's first postmaster, Amos Graham. Graham was one of the first pioneers of what might later turn out to be downtown Maryville, and the city was named after his significant other, Mary.[11] notwithstanding his above recorded job, Graham was additionally one of the first Nodaway County Commissioners and filled in as the primary district representative when the province was officially composed in 1845.
