To improve water quality, NPWA performs a good annual hydrant flushing program which happens in the spring of every year. This flushing plan helps improve water high quality by removing any kind of possible build-up of calcium deposits from the inside water distribution plumbing. NPWA also comes with an aggressive water primary replacement program to improve the caliber of water that we deliver to the customers. Old unlined throw iron mains, that may affect water high quality and restrict circulation, are replaced regularly. These projects tend to be scheduled when Penn US DOT or our fellow member municipalities are carrying out work on the roads to lessen inconvenience to the city. In 2017, NPWA received the actual Directors Award because of its efforts with the actual Partnership for Secure Water’s Distribution Program Optimization Program (DSOP). NPWA became the very first public water power in Pennsylvania to become listed on the DSOP and one of the primary in North America to get this prestigious recognition for completing an extensive self-assessment of water submission system operations. The assessment involves an assessment of distribution program operations and overall performance, including factors, for example, chlorine residuals, stress levels and rate of recurrence of water primary breaks. The final statement is reviewed through water resource experts from across America. This award appreciates the Authority’s dedication to excellence within distribution system procedures in providing top quality safe drinking water towards the customer’s tap far above regulatory standards..
