The water program, owned by the Shippensburg Borough Authority and operated by Shippensburg Borough, is allowed under Pennsylvania A safe drinking water supply Act and is recognized as PWSID No . 7210043. The Authority’s drinking water system serves around 6, 200 clients and an estimated populace of 16, 500 persons in Shippensburg Borough; Shippensburg, Southampton and South Newton Townships in Cumberland County; and Orrstown Borough; Letterkenny, Lurgan and Southampton Townships in Franklin Region. The Authority gives water on a mass sales basis to Shippensburg Mobile Properties, a mobile house park. The Expert also has an interconnection with the Southern Cumberland Water Association to supply water to the Relationship in case of an emergency. The drinking water currently given by Shippensburg comes from a reservoir and 3 wells. Reservoirs are classified as surface area water sources as well as the wells are private as ground drinking water sources. As drinking water travels over the surface area of the land or perhaps through the ground, this dissolves naturally occurring nutrients and radioactive materials and may pick up chemicals resulting from the presence of pets or liveliness. Surface water is usually withdrawn from The Letterkenny area Dam Reservoir with an interconnect with the Franklin County General Expert as of March five, 2007. Shippensburg offers several finished drinking water storage facilities, which includes: Orrstown storage container, with a storage capacity of 149, 000 gallons, located in Orrstown Area; Roxbury Reservoir, having a storage capacity of five-hundred, 000 gallons, located near the Gunter Area Water Treatment Grow; Shippensburg (In-Town) Tank, with a storage capacity of just one, 400, 000 gallons, located in the the southern part of portion of Shippensburg Area; Cleversburg Reservoir, having a storage capacity of five-hundred, 000 gallons, located south of the Town of Cleversburg; Martinsville Reservoir, with a memory space of 250, 500 gallons, located southern of the Village of Martinsville; Huckleberry Tank, with a storage capacity of 110, 000 gallons, located on Strohms Hollowed out Road in Southampton Township, Cumberland Region; Timberhill storage container, with a storage capacity of three, 000, 000 gallons, located off of Possum Hollow Road in Southampton Township, Franklin County..

Shippensburg is the most seasoned community of the Cumberland Valley, and the second most seasoned west of the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania. In July, 1730, 12 Scotch-Irish families went to the site of the present day Shippensburg and fabricated lodge homes along Burd's Run. Shippensburg started as the western station of pioneer settlement. Shippensburg is the most seasoned community of the Cumberland Valley, and the second most seasoned west of the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania. In July, 1730, 12 Scotch-Irish families went to the site of the present day Shippensburg and fabricated lodge homes along Burd's Run. Shippensburg started as the western station of pioneer settlement. The town got its name from Edward Shippen, a noticeable inhabitant of Lancaster who got the patent to the land from the beneficiaries of William Penn.In 1735, Samuel Perry constructed the Widow Piper's Tavern, which stands at the southwest corner of East King Street and Queen Street. This structure was chosen as the spot for the principal Cumberland County Courts in 1750 and 1751. The structure has been reestablished and serves today as the home of the Shippensburg Civic Club..
