The History of Poweshiek Water Association The first informational meeting was held July 7, 1977 at the Malcom Auditorium Malcom, Iowa with approximately 100 persons in participation. At the following meeting, a leading body of 13 members was chosen. Poweshiek Water was consolidated in mid-1978. A consulting firm, Bartlett and West Engineers, Inc., of Topeka, Kansas, was held in March, 1978, to design a system and record an application for a FmHA credit. The undertaking was subsidized in April 1983. The office in Brooklyn opened in August of 1983. The Association changed authoritative status from a 504A non-profit to a 357A Public Body in January 1984. Following the Iowa Code, the load up size was decreased from thirteen to nine as of now. Communities served by PWA incorporate Guernsey, Gibson, Vining, Luzene, Thornburg, Searsboro, Malcom, Buckingham, Dinsdale, Irving, Watkins, Barnes City, Clutier, Hickory Hollow, Millersburg, Dysart, Brooklyn, Chelsea, Elberon, Norway, Deep River, Conroy, Van Horne, and Holiday Lake. Treatment Facilities Poweshiek Water Association has two treatment facilities. One is found 3 miles south of Tama on Highway 63 and the other is situated on 220th Trail by South Amana. A lime softening office, the Tama Plant utilizes 14 alluvial wells to supply up to 2,800,000 gallons of water for every day to the system with a hardness of 5 to 7 grains. The Amana Plant uses a reverse osmosis system where the water is blessed to receive a degree of 4 to 5 grains of hardness. PWA has two vertical and two edge wells to give water from this area.
