This past year, as in earlier years, Rock Island’s tap water met almost all USEPA and The state of Illinois drinking water quality requirements. Rock Island is constantly on the use of the Mississippi Water as its source about drinking water. The City associated with Rock Island offers extensive treatment as well as performs over fifteen, 000 chemical as well as bacteriological tests yearly to insure that this highest quality water is provided to the citizens. In the United States, the primary sources of drinking water (both tap water and bottled water) include streams, lakes, streams, fish ponds, reservoirs, springs, as well as groundwater aquifers. Because the water travels on the surface of the property or filters into the ground it can break down naturally-occurring minerals, that in some cases may be radioactive material. These same lakes and rivers may also absorb dangerous contaminants that may be an immediate result of the presence of pet or human activity. Pollutants that may be present in resource water include: ¨ Microbial contaminants, for example, viruses and germs, may come from sewerage treatment plants, solid waste systems, agricultural or even livestock operations and wildlife. ¨ Inorganic contaminants, such as salts and metals, could be naturally occurring or derive from urban storm drinking water runoff, industrial or even domestic wastewater discharges, oil and gas production, exploration, or farming. ¨ Pesticides and weed killers, which may come from some sources such as farming, urban storm drinking water runoff, and home uses. ¨ Natural chemical contaminants, such as synthetic and unpredictable organic chemicals, tend to be by-products of industrial procedures and petroleum creation, and can also originate from gas stations, urban surprise water runoff, as well as septic systems. ¨ Radioactive contaminants, which may be naturally-occurring or become the result of oil and gas creation and mining actions. Drinking water, including water in bottles, may reasonably be anticipated to contain a minimum of small amounts of a few contaminants. The presence of pollutants does not necessarily reveal that water presents a health danger. More information about pollutants and potential wellness effects can be obtained by calling the USEPA’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791). To ensure that plain is safe to drink, USEPA prescribes regulations that limit the number of specific contaminants in drinking water provided by public drinking water systems. FDA rules establish limits concerning contaminants in water in bottles which must supply the same protection about public health. Some people might be more vulnerable to pollutants in drinking water compared to the general population. Immuno-compromised persons, such as an individual with cancer that is undergoing chemotherapy, individuals who have undergone body organ transplants, people with HIV/AIDS or other defense mechanisms disorders and, specific elderly individuals as well as infants, can be especially at risk from bacterial infections. These people should look for advice about moving water from their health care providers. USEPA/CDC guidelines on suitable means to lessen the chance of infection by Cryptosporidium and other microbial pollutants are available from the USEPA’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline 1-800-426-4791..
