Source Drinking water Assessment and its Supply SURFACE WATER - The watershed of Lake Meredith is made up primarily of plantation and ranch countries; therefore, the susceptibility for surface drinking water contamination is mainly coming from agricultural practices. Manures, pesticides and other farming chemicals, as well as run-off from Confined Pet Feeding Operations (CAFOs), represent potential contaminant sources. GROUNDWATER - Amarillo’s municipal hydrant wells are located mainly in farming and ranching areas. Susceptibility for contamination is principally from agricultural chemical substances. Other potential causes of contamination are CAFOs, septic systems, essential oil field related actions and abandoned personal water wells. The town has an ongoing Wellhead Protection Program, which can be designed to apply TCEQ well standards and guidelines to protect against any kind of pollution entering the underground water to assist protect our water source. 2016 APPROXIMATED WATER LOSS Inside the water loss review submitted to the Tx Water Development Table (TWDB) for the timeframe of January due to December 2016, the device lost an estimated 475 million gallons of water or around 3 percent.
