About Us
For more California resources & information
Burbank’s drinking water originates from two sources: community groundwater from the San Fernando Basin and water purchased in the Metropolitan Water Region of Southern California (MWD), imported from the Co River Aqueduct as well as the State Water Task. Burbank does not have got ownership rights towards the naturally occurring groundwater beneath the City and is determined by imported water bought from MWD. Nevertheless, Burbank receives the right to pump groundwater (groundwater credits) equivalent to twenty percent of the total normal water it distributes. These kinds of “Import Return Credits” represent the area of the imported drinking water that is applied to landscape designs irrigation and percolates down into the aquifer, therefore resulting in the estimated 20% credit rating. To augment the groundwater supply BWP will be able to purchase lowercost without treatment water that is brought in to the local area and directly placed into the floor at Pacoima. BWP receives water credit from this water by a 1 for one particular ratio, which includes 35% of Burbank’s water supply. These credits allow BWP to function from its groundwater boreholes. The groundwater is certainly treated to remove unstable organic contaminants just like trichloroethylene (TCE) and tetrachloroethylene (PCE) ahead of it enters the distribution system. Burbank has two treatment facilities, the Pond Street Plant plus the Burbank Operable Device (BOU) Plant. Intended for the year 2016, 54% of our drinking water source came from groundwater that was treated only at the BOU. The Colorado River Aqueduct and the State Normal water Project comprise the imported water provides purchased from MWD. MWD operates its very own treatment facilities for the surface water materials before delivering these to Burbank. For the season 2016, 63% of the City’s drinking water originated from MWD’s treated and untreated sources. Equally, BOU and MWD treated sources to fulfill all Federal and State drinking water criteria. A valuable additional drinking water resource for Burbank is usually recycled water which can be distributed via a completely independent water system. The usage of recycled water enhances the sustainability of your water supply, conserves the vital resource of potable water, and expands the drought proof portion of each of our water supply. It is a dependable supply for the irrigation of our recreational areas and golf course, as well as cooling water in our Power Plant. In 2016, 17% of the city’s total hydrant came from recycled drinking water. A source drinking water assessment was designed in December 2002 for the groundwater and area water supplies. The groundwater source is recognized as most vulnerable to the known contaminant aigrette that resulted in the development of the BOU Flower which is a component of a superfund site treatment. Possible contaminating actions include automobile restoration shops, petroleum pipe, National Pollutant Release Elimination System (NPDES) permitted discharges, metallic plating, underground storage space tanks, plastics maker, airport, military installations, and automobile gas stations. The groundwater report can be bought for public assessment at the Water Architectural Office located in the BWP Administration Building at 164 Western Magnolia Blvd..
