The sources of water (both tap water and bottled water) consist of rivers, lakes, channels, ponds, reservoirs, suspension springs, and wells. Because the water travels within the surface of the property or through the floor, it dissolves natural minerals and, in some instances, radioactive material, and may pick up substances caused by the presence of animals or perhaps from human activity. Pollutants that may be present in supply water include • Microbial contaminants, including viruses and bacterias, that may come from sewerage treatment plants, solid waste systems, agricultural animal operations, and animals. • Inorganic pollutants, such as salts and minerals, that can be natural or result from city stormwater runoff, commercial or domestic sewage discharges, oil and gas creation, mining, or harvesting. • Pesticides and weed killers, that may come from some sources such as farming, urban stormwater runoff, and residential uses. • Organic chemical substance contaminants, including man-made and volatile organic and natural chemicals, that are by-products of industrial processes and petroleum production, and may also come from gasoline stations, urban stormwater runoff, agricultural application, and septic systems. • Radioactive contaminants, which can be naturally occurring or end up being the result of oil and gas creation and mining actions. Our water supply includes three surface drinking water sources: Sacramento Delta water via the North Bay Aqueduct (NBA), Lake Berryessa transferred through the Putah Southerly Canal (PSC), and Lake Herman, the City’s emergency source. A source drinking water assessment of the NBA was completed on 03 2003. The source is recognized as most vulnerable to cows and sheep grazing activities in the watershed associated with turbidity, total organic carbon, and coliform bacteria recognized in the water supply. Around 85% of the watershed is grazing property or irrigated pastures. The assessment of PSC was designed in March 2003. The origin is considered most susceptible to the following activities connected with a contaminant recognized in the water supply: Unlawful activities, unauthorized getting rid of, and herbicide software. Also, PSC is recognized as moderately vulnerable to the next activities not connected with detected contaminants: highways, storm drain secretions, and surface drinking water recreation. The evaluation of Lake Herman was completed on 06 2002. Lake Herman is considered most susceptible to the following activities connected with contaminants detected inside the water supply: urban runoff, herbicides and insect sprays used at Hiddenbrooke Golf Course and by occupants and ranchers found in Sky Valley, and historic mining procedures. Even though the water resources are considered vulnerable to these types of activities all water standards are fulfilled in the treated drinking water delivered to customers. A duplicate of the completed evaluation is available at the Benicia Public Library or maybe the Water Quality Department Offices at 614 East 5th Road, or the State Drinking water Resources Control Table, Division of Drinking Water, eight hundred fifty Marina Bay Parkway, Richmond, CA. You might request that an overview be sent to you by contacting Label of Drinking Water district manufacture at (510) 620-3454. You may also contact David Wenslawski, Water Top quality Technician at 746-4792 or by email at dwenslawski@ci. benicia. ca. us. In case you have any problems with the drinking water, please inform us by calling the water Treatment Plant in 746-4394. SPECIAL INFO Drinking water, including water in bottles, may reasonably be anticipated to contain in the least small amounts of some contaminants. The existence of contaminants does not always indicate that drinking water poses a wellness risk. More information regarding contaminants and probable health effects can be acquired by calling the USEPA’s Safe Drinking Water Servicenummer (1-800-426-4791). Some people might be more vulnerable to pollutants in drinking water compared to the general population. Immuno-compromised persons such as individuals with cancer going through chemotherapy, persons that have undergone organ transplants, people with HIV/AIDS or perhaps other immune system disorders, some elderly, and infants can be especially at risk from attacks. These people should look for advice about water from their health care providers. USEPA/Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines upon appropriate means to reduce the risk of infection simply by Cryptosporidium and other microbes contaminants are available from your Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791)..
