About Us
For more California resources & information
The town of Soledad’s occupants were fortunate in this past year to relish an abundant ground hydrant from the City’s water wells. One of the five water wells, Well #9 was inactive. The water wells have a mixed pumping capacity of approximately 4, 300 gallons per minute. In 2017, these four water wells pumped a total greater than 680 million gallons of clean drinking water. For more information about our watershed around the Internet, go to Browse Your Watershed in www.epa. gov/surf. Water supply for the town of Soledad water wells comes from aquifers which can be continuously being replenished with releases of water from the San Antonio and Origen Reservoirs. The reservoirs are operated by Monterey County Drinking water Resource Agency. In accordance with Monterey Region Water Resource info, approximately 90. 4% of the water from your Salinas Valley water supplies is consumed simply by agricultural operations. Town populations consume on the subject of 9. 6% from the groundwater supply. To find out more about this report, or perhaps for any questions associated with your drinking water, make sure you call Anthony Karl, Public Works Supervisor, at (831) 223-5190 or email in akarl@cityofsoledad. com. What is Cross-connection? Cross-connections that contaminate water distribution lines are a major concern. A cross-connection is formed at any time where a drinking water range connects to gear (boilers), systems that contain chemicals (air fitness systems, fire sprinkler systems, irrigation systems) or water causes of questionable quality. Cross-connection contamination can occur if the pressure in the gear or system is more than the pressure within the drinking water line (backpressure). Contamination can also happen when the pressure inside the drinking water line drops due to fairly regular occurrences (main fractures, heavy water demand) causing contaminants to become sucked out from the gear and into the water line (backsiphonage). Outdoors water taps and garden hoses often are the most common causes of cross-connection contamination in the home. The garden hose makes a hazard when immersed in a swimming pool or perhaps when attached to a chemical sprayer intended for weed killing. Backyard hoses that are remaining lying on the ground might be contaminated by manures, cesspools or backyard chemicals. Improperly set up valves in your bathroom could also be a supply of cross-connection contamination. Community water supplies are continuously jeopardized simply by cross-connections unless suitable valves, known as backflow prevention devices, during installation and maintained. We now have surveyed industrial, industrial, and institutional services in the service region to make sure that potential cross-connections are identified and eliminated or guarded by a backflow preventer. We also examine and test backflow preventers to make sure that they offer maximum protection. To find out more about backflow avoidance contact the A safe drinking water supply Hotline at (800) 426-4791..
