Information About Your Drinking Water Groton Utilities is happy to report the water we source meets all founded Federal and Condition drinking water standards. During 2017, as in previous years, we received NO violations intended for water quality. All of us received one infringement for failure to assess for chlorine dioxide from September being unfaithful - 14, 2017; we did evaluate for a by-product, chlorite, and the results were common of the values after and before the 9th: 14th (during that the chlorine dioxide went from ND - 140 ppb, which is very well below the MCL of 800). This twentieth Annual Water Top quality Report contains information about the source and treatment of your drinking water, lists the outcomes of our 2017 screening, and includes a few of the improvements we are producing to enhance the quality of the drinking water. It is our task to provide safe drinking water through source protection, suitable treatment, testing, and proper distribution to the valued customers. Likewise, our mission of security applies to our workers by maintaining safe functioning conditions, and offering personal protective gear (PPE) as they try to provide you, our appreciated customer, the appropriate amount and quality of water. We are likewise aware that proper pressure and storage of water through the areas we serve protects safe fire safety. Source Drinking water Groton Utilities’ drinking water is supplied by surface area water from several five interconnected reservoirs covering a watershed of 15. six miles, and also contains three wells. 4 reservoirs - Morgan, Ledyard, Poheganut, and Smith Lake circulation into Poquonnock, the terminal reservoir. Once full, all five reservoirs have a combined capacity of two. 5 billion gallons of water. Planning the future, we spent funds in 2014 to secure water privileges from Haley’s Stream in Groton, and also have advised local and state agencies to make sure that the immediate watershed region will receive protection position. Our staff contains reservoir patrol personnel who, with regional and state law enforcement, maintain a high level of security, monitor the watershed for potential sources of contamination, and routinely collect drinking water samples for lab analysis. We, in addition, have a spill response group and trailer to help emergency responders with any threat of contamination that could affect our water supply. Source Water Evaluation The State of Connecticut Division of Public Health offers evaluated our drinking water resources. It was found that Groton Utilities’ water sources have a general low susceptibility to potential sources of contaminants.
