Pond Bowen is a man-made lake formed by waters of the Southern region Pacolet River as well as its tributaries. Water runs from Lake Bowen into Municipal Water tank #1, another man-made lake. The entire watershed for these lakes is within the state of South Carolina, in Spartanburg and eastern Greenville Counties. Water by these lakes is treated at the Ur. B. Simms Normal water Treatment Plant. Pond Blalock is also a man-made lake shaped by the combining of surplus water through the Bowen/Reservoir #1system together with the North Pacolet Lake and its tributaries. Area of the Blalock watershed is at South Carolina and the portion is in North Carolina. Normal water from Lake Blalock is treated on the Miles W. Whitlock Water Treatment Facility. The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) is required by Safe Drinking Water Act Changes of 1996 to execute a delineation and assessment of each watershed in South Carolina that is used as a drinking water reference.
