Columbia Utilities has served the utility needs of the City of Columbia. The Adair County Water District was shaped by a request for the Fiscal Court in October 1971. The Water District has developed to serve more than 7900 customers and covers more than 470 miles of water lines. In 2009 the City and County had discussions and decided to join the two systems to shape the Columbia/Adair Utilities District. Head supervisor for the Water District Lenny Stone under advice and guidance from County Judge Ann Melton, Mayor of Columbia Pat Bell and Attorney Damon Talley drove the endeavors to blend the two systems. On July 30, 2010 the two became one with an objective to serve the water and sewer needs of Adair County..
