GRAYSON COUNTY DRINKING WATER DISTRICT WATER QUALITY REPORT FOR 12 MONTHS 2017 There have been many milestone years to get the Grayson Region Water District. 1969 was the first. That is the year a group of visionaries, led by Edwin Nichols, had the thought of safe affordable water to drink for the countryside areas of Grayson State. The Fiscal Courtroom passed a resolution officially creating the Grayson County Water Region organized under KRS 74. 010 and the milestone calendar year of 1974 the district began offering water to the region. Warren RECC was contracted to manage the water district. The next few years had been fairly uneventful; the water district was developing at a steady speed. It enjoyed an excellent relationship with Warren RECC and the various other water districts managed by the --Warren, Butler, and Simpson County Water Areas. In 1997 water district board once more displayed exceptional knowledge and leadership whenever they elected to remain with Warren RECC as the other three drinking water districts decided to hit out on their personal and sever connections with Warren RECC. GCWD would appear very different today if the board experienced decided otherwise. Within the next several years GCWD experienced some of the most prolific development. With the installation of fresh line extensions, the addition of new meter companies, and un-served areas wanting water services there was a requirement for more water. Until now, all water the District provided to its customers was purchased from Leitchfield Municipal Utilities. LMU was unable to give you the additional demand and growth would quit if the Water Area was unable to look for a source of water to fulfill the demand. Water Board decided building its water treatment plant was the ideal course of action for long-lasting fulfillment of the Drinking water Districts Mission. In July 2002, the GCWD celebrated the opening of the Edwin Nichols Drinking water Treatment Facility located in the Duff area of Tough River Lake. Among 2002 and 2015 the water district found very minimal development but other regulating challenges arose. With increased stringent regulations concerning disinfection by-products, water District started to explore treatment technologies to deal with these issues and to always provide safe clean affordable water. After much research water District chose to add Granular Activated Co2 (GAC) treatment and Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection towards the treatment process. In 2013 the new procedures went into service. They will have proven extremely capable of going above the regulatory requirements for which they were set up. These treatment systems will also provide a hurdle to future growing contaminants such seeing that pharmaceuticals and harmful toxins related to algae. 2016 saw arguably the most important milestone since the Drinking water District’s inception. Warren RECC abruptly decided to void the operations contract with all the Water District. With nothing more than water program infrastructure, some gear, and vehicles, and a handful of worried workers the Water District Table was again offering the test deciding on a path forward. After studying the options, it had been clear that the Drinking water District personnel had been more than able and eager to operate individually and continue the high level of assistance our customers got come to expect. 2017 was a very demanding year. Purchasing a site for a new workplace, building a new workplace, new customer details system, providing of the employees payout and benefits, new dispatching, communications, pc networking-we were essentially starting from scratch. The Board's mission to steer us through the procedure was that customer service and water quality may not diminish, employee pays out and benefits might remain at or near the same level if at all possible, and there is no water price increase for the customers as a result. To date, all those goals have been achieved. Upon March 12th, 2018 the Water District opened up the doors of the new office in 21 Shull White Rd in Leitchfield. The American Banner was raised and saluted by long-time Table Chairman Vietnam Veteran John Tomes. The move was a success with not many minor loose ends, likely the just difference our clients noticed was the travel to a different place to spend their water expenses. Behind the scenes, however, the employees of the Drinking water District worked unceasingly to insure an easy transition. The future of GCWD is very bright. Offering safe, clean, inexpensive water to our clients will continue to be our objective no matter what milestones place ahead. The Panel and employees from the Water District have got proven themselves capable to meet any problem and you as a client can rest assured that your drinking water is within very capable hands.
