The City of Extremidad Gorda is a surface area water supply plant with Shell Creek while our source of drinking water. Water impounded by Hendrickson Dam is called Shell Creek Tank and is the fourth greatest surface water program within the boundary from the Southwest Florida Drinking water Management District. The device, including the dam, was first constructed in 1964. Shell Creek Tank is fed simply by two creek devices consisting of Shell Creek from the east and Prairie Creek from your northwest. The total draining area at Hendrickson Dam is 373 square miles making a reservoir surface area of around 800 acres that contains 765 million gallons of water. The therapy plant has a style rated capacity of 10 million gallons per day. Our kind of treatment is standard treatment consisting of radicalization, sedimentation, and purification. Alum is used while the coagulant to get rid of large particles inside the water, powdered triggered carbon is added for the removal of offensive taste and smells, a polymer is usually added to aid in sedimentation, and finally the ph level is adjusted. A stabilizer is also put into the finished drinking water for corrosion control in the distribution program. Untreated water is usually pumped from Covering Creek to the herb where the water is usually aerated utilizing a chute aerator. Following oxygenation, powdered activated co2 and alum will be added. The water and chemicals are after that “flash mixed” found in insure an even combination of the compound prior to exiting the aerator. The water leaves the aerator proceeding to another stage of the treatment, the flocculation level. Flocculation takes place in basins that contain two variable speed red bull. As this combined water enters the Solids Contact Models - an area from the plant where the majority of the treatment occurs: plastic is added. Inside the Solids Contact Models, water flows up from the bottom of the container through the solids mass. This mass consists of settled solids and chemicals that work as a coagulant and liquid filter. The clear water leaves these units exactly where chlorine is added. Ammonia is brought to the chlorinated drinking water to form chloramines. If chlorine alone had been used, organic materials contained in the water might combine to form these types of carcinogenic precursors. Chloramines prevent the formation of carcinogenic precursors. The last step of the treatment procedure involves the blocking of the treated drinking water to remove any additional halted solids. Prior to purification, caustic soda is usually added to adjust the pH and strengthen the water. The water gets into a clear well in which a stabilizer is put in to help to prevent corrosion inside the distribution system. The finished water is usually transferred by pumping systems into a 2 mil gallon storage container. From this tank, drinking water is sent through the distribution system to your house..
