The Fleck 2510 Greensand Filter fights back with manganese greensand, a proven media that oxidizes and traps iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide. It’s run by the heavy-duty Fleck 2510 control valve and packed with 1.5 cubic feet of media.

HOW TO USE
- Test your water for iron, manganese, sulfur, and pH, and confirm your well pump flow rate.
- Install it after the pressure tank and ahead of any softener, with a drain line and power.
- Backwash and regenerate the media before first use, following the manual.
- Keep the regenerant stocked. Handle potassium permanganate with gloves; it stains everything purple.
- Let the valve run the backwash and regeneration schedule automatically.
HOW DOES IT WORK
Greensand granules are coated with manganese oxide, a powerful oxidizer.
As well water flows through, that coating converts dissolved iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide into solid particles. The media bed then traps them.
On schedule, the Fleck 2510 valve backwashes the bed, flushing the trapped particles to drain. Then it draws in a potassium permanganate solution to recharge the coating, so it’s ready for round two.

The Fleck 2510 Greensand Iron Filter with auto backwash control valve is a premium filter that effectively removes high levels of iron, sulfur, and manganese frequently found dissolved in water — the same dissolved metals that stain appliances, laundry, and plumbing through oxidation (rusting).
System includes:
- Fleck 2510 Auto Backwash Valve — fiber-reinforced polymer valve body (tough, non-corrosive, UV-resistant)
- Filter tank (available in 3 sizes and 3 colors); chlorine can be fed via the iron filter to increase overall performance
- Stainless steel bypass valve (3/4" or 1")
- Potassium permanganate (feeder) tank with safety float, brine well, and felt pad
- GreenSand media with support gravel (depends on selected size)
- Media funnel for easy installation

- Shut off all faucets — no running water anywhere.

What's Actually Causing Those Stains?
Excessive iron typically shows up as ugly red or brown staining on plumbing fixtures, sinks, toilets, and laundry. With well water, iron usually starts in a ferrous state — meaning the water looks clear at the tap. Once exposed to air, it oxidizes into a ferric state, and that's when the red/brown "rust" material forms.
It doesn't take much — staining can start at concentrations as low as 0.3 mg/L. Depending on your exact concentration, a quality iron filter is the fix for excessive iron content.

Easy Operation
Fleck 2510SXT Greensand Filter Maintenance:
Add one cup of potassium permanganate powder to the pot perm tank once or twice a month — never more than one cup at a time. Water pressure should not exceed 80 PSI. No other regular maintenance required. Greensand media typically lasts 5-10 years depending on water quality (3-5 years or less under high iron/manganese/sulfur content or heavy irrigation use). Mineral and pot perm tanks generally last a lifetime unless damaged by weather, acts of God, or improper installation. Brine injectors may need occasional cleaning if clogged with sediment, iron, or manganese; piston, spacers, and seals can wear and are generally inexpensive to replace.
SoftPro RO Maintenance:
Bottom three (sediment + carbon) — 6 to 12 months. Alkalizing filter — 1 to 2 years. RO membrane — 2 to 3 years. Water quality affects longevity.
