City History The City of Snyder - Past and Present Snyder (the district seat of Scurry County) is at the intersection of U.S. interstates 84 and 180, 87 miles southeast of Lubbock in the central piece of the province. It had its beginnings in 1878 when a wild ox tracker and dealer, William Henry (Pete) Snyder (a local of Pennsylvania) assembled an exchanging post on the banks of Deep Creek.
