The Fleck Terminator Iron Filter uses air injection to oxidize iron and sulfur, then traps them in Birm media. That means no more rust stains, no more rotten egg smell, and no more white tees gone orange.
It comes in three sizes, from 1.0 to 2.0 cu ft, for homes with 1 to 4 bathrooms. Every system includes an air injector, an air precipitation tank, an auto-backwash valve, and a stainless steel bypass.
Works with submersible well pumps only. Not for above-ground jet or booster pumps
HOW TO USE
Size it right. Install it once. Enjoy clear water.
- Confirm you have a submersible pump. Jet and booster pumps won’t work with this system.
- Measure your well pump flow rate. The 1.0 and 1.5 cu ft models need a 5 GPM backwash rate. The 2.0 cu ft model needs 7 GPM.
- Pick your size by bathrooms. The 1.0 cu ft model covers up to 2 bathrooms, the 1.5 covers up to 3, and the 2.0 covers up to 4.
- Choose your color and bypass size. Both 3/4" and 1" stainless steel bypass valves are available.
- Install it on your main water line. The 1.0 and 1.5 cu ft systems ship loaded with media. The 2.0 cu ft ships empty because of weight, so a media funnel is included for loading it during installation.
HOW DOES IT WORK
Air is the secret weapon.
Iron and sulfur stay dissolved in well water, which is why it looks clear until it stains everything. Here’s how the Terminator stops them:
- Inject: The air injector pulls oxygen into your water.
- Oxidize: The air precipitation tank gives iron and sulfur time to turn into solid particles.
- Trap: Birm media in the mineral tank catches those particles.
- Flush: The auto-backwash valve rinses them down the drain on its own.
Clean water out. Rust and rotten eggs stay behind.

The size of an iron filter or pH neutralizer system depends on your well pump's flow rate. Check yours before selecting a system — don't pick one requiring more flow than you've got.
1. Shut off all faucets — no running water anywhere.
2. Place a 5-gallon bucket near your well pump's hose bib.
3. Fully open the bib until the pump starts.
4. Time how long it takes to fill the bucket.

What's Actually Causing Those Stains?
Excessive iron typically shows up as ugly red or brown staining on plumbing fixtures, sinks, toilets, and laundry. With well water, iron usually starts in a ferrous state — meaning the water looks clear at the tap. Once exposed to air, it oxidizes into a ferric state, and that's when the red/brown "rust" material forms.
It doesn't take much — staining can start at concentrations as low as 0.3 mg/L. Depending on your exact concentration, a quality iron filter is the fix.
