The Albemarle County Service Authority (ACSA) distributes treated water and gathers sewage for treatment, while maintaining, growing, and supplanting the infrastructure inside the service area. We were made by the County Board of Supervisors in 1964 with the Crozet people group as its sole customer. During the 1960s the South Rivanna Dam was constructed and a few subdivisions were created all through the County, for example, Carrsbrook, Woodbrook, Westmoreland, Northfields, Berkeley, Hessian Hills, Montvue, Colthurst, Flordon and West Leigh. In the late 1960s and mid 1970s, these systems were procured by the County for the ACSA, and the County acquired water from the City of Charlottesville supply to furnish every one of these areas with open water, and take out their well systems. In 1973, the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority (RWSA) was framed and turned into the discount supplier of water and wastewater treatment for the City and ACSA..
