Germantown Water Utility Drinking Water Report Info
Franklin, named for Benjamin Franklin, was one of two towns framed out of the first Town of Kinnickinnic by the Wisconsin Territorial Legislature in 1839. Franklin was limited by Greenfield toward the north, Oak Creek toward the east, and Racine and Waukesha Counties toward the south and west. It was accounted for that the nature of quite a bit of its territory was incredible, while different bits were harsh with numerous rocks. Initially, Franklin was secured with overwhelming timber, generally hardwoods, for example, pecan, butternut, and hickory. There was a wealth of wild creatures: bears, pumas, wolves, wildcats, deer, and wild turkeys. The Root River outfitted almost the whole seepage for the Town. Life was crude - a "full dress" suit for the region and time was depicted as buckskins over a flax shirt and slippers. Franklin's initial town officials were spunky people who battled against extension to the City of Milwaukee. They even vanished for half a month until the City contract landed from Madison in 1956. After the expectation to fuse from a town to a city in 1956 was made known, town officials stowed away so the request server couldn't discover them and square the endeavor. Franklin, a piece of the Northwest Territory, was sorted out into a township in 1841. The name "Franklin" was given to pay tribute to Benjamin Franklin in 1839. The township comprised of 36 miles and after 105 years, in 1956, was known as a "City of homes". Franklin stayed a rustic town for over 100 years. In 1956, a dread that the City of Milwaukee would endeavor to attach portions of Franklin provoked the town to fuse as a fourth-class City. Milwaukee was taking a gander at extending its limits and the rustic towns of Franklin and Oak Creek were sitting focuses for extension. Milwaukee wanted to add a bit of Franklin from 27th Street to Ryan Road to 51st Street to the Town's northern limit. At a yearly gathering in April 1956 in the old Town Hall, which has since been moved to Lions Legend Park, Town Chairman Thomas Godsell said the occupants were against the piecemeal addition of the Town. He required an examination to battle "the dangers to beat down our Town". Town officials included the number of inhabitants in detainees of the House of Correction to make the City qualified for joining to turn into a fourth-class City. To consolidate, the Town required an appeal marked by 100 electorate and one-portion of the property proprietors. Other than the request, an enumeration was required and a choice must be passed. The Town required 5,000 occupants and $20 million in leveled an incentive to turn into a fourth-class City under the new law..
