Franklin, named for Benjamin Franklin, was one of two towns framed out of the first Town of Kinnickinnic by the Wisconsin Territorial Legislature in 1839. Franklin was limited by Greenfield toward the north, Oak Creek toward the east, and Racine and Waukesha Counties toward the south and west.
