In 1803, a school township was put aside in the almost uninhabited forests of northwestern Butler County. In 1810, a year after Miami University was contracted, the Village of Oxford was spread out and the first parcels were sold. In the next year, the first school was assembled and by 1830, with a populace of more than 700, the Village of Oxford was consolidated. A sanction type of government was received in 1960 and after 10 years populace development had transformed the town into an undeniable city. The first limits of the City consisted of Mile Square. Various extensions during ongoing decades expanded the size, bringing about the City right now consisting of around seven square miles. Miami University was established in 1809 and has around 14,000 college students today. Miami University is the second oldest aesthetic sciences instructive institution in Ohio. Miami University is notable for the advancement of the McGuffey Readers by W.H. McGuffey, which started production in 1836.
